The star of Barolo (and why I’m so ecstatic)

This is a quick post to express how absolutely thrilled I am to read the latest news in the April issue of the Decanter magazine. The wine I fell in love with during my trip to Piedmont last year has been rated as OUTSTANDING by the wine critics in the 2010 vintage panel tasting! Out of 134 wines tasted only 3 have scored into this highest category and 2010 Cerretta Giovanni Rosso (100% Nebbiolo grapes) is one of them.

This excellent result has touched my heart in a very special way. I have visited the producer Giovanni Rosso in Serralunga d’Alba and have spend several hours tasting the wines from barrels, touring the vineyards (including the beautiful Cerretta vineyard), touching the vines at flower set and even tasting the soil of Cerretta.

It was an unforgettable experience and thanks to the news in Decanter I was sent on a wonderful little trip down the memory lane, which I would love to share with you. Below a few pictures of my visit to Giovanni Rosso.

Please avoid confusion between the Ceretto winery which is a completely different wine producer near Alba and Cerretta which is a plot of land belonging to wine producer Giovanni Rosso and making exceptional single vineyard wine I talked about above.

This remarkable wine is sold out at the winery and will not be available for long in retail, especially after the outstanding rating in UK’s and world’s biggest wine magazine. I managed to secure a case for myself and if you are interested in purchasing the wine hurry up! Contact me and I will be happy to help you source it as long as it is available. Note that this wine will age beautifully and has a massive drinking window of 2019-2040, so something to enjoy and remember for many years to come!
