2007 La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza, Spain

2007 Vina Ardanza La Rioja Alta
2007 Vina Ardanza La Rioja Alta

Tasting note: Medium garnet, pronounced intensity on the nose, stewed and dried fruit, sweet spice and licorice aromas, hint of tobacco. Full bodied style, medium acidity, ripe soft tannins, on the palate notes of black cherry, plum, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla.

Very complex and very smooth, long finish; delicious wine – I absolutely love it. This Rioja Reserva (Tempranillo & Garnacha blend) retails at around £20 which in my view is very good value for the quality you get.

Food pairing: Rioja and lamb continues to be one of my favorites food and wine pairings. I paired this wine with lamb cutlets with garlic and rosemary (seared in the pan and finished off in the oven), roast potatoes and tenderstem broccoli.

And by the way, this particular bottle together with a Viña Arana from the same winery, La Rioja Alta, was featured in my SweervyWine & The City series last summer… 😉

2014 Der Ott Grüner Veltliner, Wagram, Austria

2014 Der Ott Gruner VeltlinerTasting note: on the nose medium+ intensity,  aromas of clementine, ripe apple, honey melon, hint of fresh cut grass. On the palate high refreshing acidity, medium body, long lingering finish. Mineral, ripe stone fruit (apricots), satsumas, ripe pears; tropical fruit notes open up on both palate and nose after a few minutes in the glass and increasing temperature. Delicious wine, very good quality. ~£20

Food pairing: this wine would go nicely with seafood, fish, summery  pasta dishes but also stand well richer poultry dishes.

Big thank you to Wine & Partners, it was an absolute delight to sample this Veltliner – a true taste of home away from home!

Exploring the Ornellaia Winery – My Ultimate Supertuscan Experience

“…if Ravel’s “Bolero” was a wine, it would probably be the 2007 Ornellaia”

From the day the London based wine merchant Armit Wines and the world famous Tenuta dell’Ornellaia had announced a competition earlier this year to win a trip to Tuscany to visit the Ornellaia estate, I was on a mission. The challenge was to take a creative photo of one’s enjoying Le Volte (the entry level wine of Ornellaia) and to share it on social media with the hashtag #LoveLeVolte.

I got obsessively dedicated to win this challenge. To make the long story short, I created a series of photos involving food, flowers, football and even my then one year old daughter. Finally the winner was announced … and there I was, doing the happy dance in my living room! 🙂 Continue reading Exploring the Ornellaia Winery – My Ultimate Supertuscan Experience

Ca’Marcanda Winery – The Bolgheri Masterpiece of Angelo Gaja

It is an absolute delight to see what a mastermind and skillful pair of hands can do when given a place to start something from scratch! Angelo Gaja, an established and prominent winemaker from Piedmont, came to Bolgheri about 20 years ago having been thoroughly impressed by the quality of local Supertuscans. He purchased a piece of land where there used to be an olive orchard and built a perfect winery. Continue reading Ca’Marcanda Winery – The Bolgheri Masterpiece of Angelo Gaja
