2007 La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza, Spain

2007 Vina Ardanza La Rioja Alta
2007 Vina Ardanza La Rioja Alta

Tasting note: Medium garnet, pronounced intensity on the nose, stewed and dried fruit, sweet spice and licorice aromas, hint of tobacco. Full bodied style, medium acidity, ripe soft tannins, on the palate notes of black cherry, plum, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla.

Very complex and very smooth, long finish; delicious wine – I absolutely love it. This Rioja Reserva (Tempranillo & Garnacha blend) retails at around £20 which in my view is very good value for the quality you get.

Food pairing: Rioja and lamb continues to be one of my favorites food and wine pairings. I paired this wine with lamb cutlets with garlic and rosemary (seared in the pan and finished off in the oven), roast potatoes and tenderstem broccoli.

And by the way, this particular bottle together with a Viña Arana from the same winery, La Rioja Alta, was featured in my SweervyWine & The City series last summer… 😉

Susumaniello, The Mysterious Italian At My Dinner Table

Yes, that’s a lot to taste through. I’m thrilled to report that I at least made a start by getting introduced to Susumaniello, an ancient grape native to Puglia region, the “heel” of Italy. SweervyWine Cooks: Salmon Steaks with Green Beans & Mushrooms, Raw Courgette Salad

This healthy and nutritious meal is a safe bet for any occasion from  weekday dinner to a classy Saturday night dinner party. In my case it was for a semi-classy-weekday-dinner-party when a dear friend visiting from Vienna popped by to see me.

I opted for salmon with a selection of three different side dishes and decided to skip starters altogether to avoid overeating in the evening (and for that matter, overworking myself).

This meal was quick and easy to prepare and that’s how I did it: Continue reading SweervyWine Cooks: Salmon Steaks with Green Beans & Mushrooms, Raw Courgette Salad
